Chandigarh int’l airport terminal to be opened on Sept 11

After much delay, the new terminal of the Chandigarh International Airport built by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11.
The inauguration of the airport is part of the PM’s itinerary. He is visiting Chandigarh to inaugurate flats for economically weaker sections of Chandigarh and attend a convocation at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The PM will inaugurate the airport at the end of his trip.
The inauguration will pave the way for starting domestic and international flights from the new terminal that has been built by the AAI at a cost of over Rs 475 crore. “We have finished our work within the stipulated time. We are ready to hand over the facility,” said a senior official in the AAI.
Once fully functional, the AAI plans to shift the operations of domestic flights from the existing domestic building to the new terminal that has been segregated in two terminal portions, domestic and international.
