Are You Willing To Spend Rs 64,900 For Samsung Galaxy Note Edge?

In September, Samsung hosted an unpacked event in Berlin and along with the Galaxy Note 4, it also showcased another quirky little device – The Galaxy Note Edge. This bizarre device will be available from first week of January.

It comes with a huge 5.6-inch curved quad-HD display, which caught our eye when it was announced.

Priced at Rs 64,900, this device is positioned as a “premium” option to the Note 4. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge copies everything from the new flagship. It comes with a 16-megapixel camera, the S-Pen, the Snapdragon 805 processor, the gorgeous QHD AMOLED display, and the 3,200mAh battery. The only difference is that along the right side, the screen slightly dips, completely eliminating the bezel.

The phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat along with a layer of the TouchWiz. The smartphone will be available in “charcoal black,” and “frost white” color variants.

Apple Readying ‘Ultra-Thin’ Retina MacBook Air And Apple Watch In Spring 2015

Apple’s long-rumoured Retina MacBook Air may finally be getting a launch next year following a new report that it will enter mass production in spring 2015, along with the Apple Watch.

Citing anonymous sources on the supply chain side, Digitimes reports that a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air featuring Intel’s new Broadwell processor is on the way.

The notebook, which has been rumoured to exist since 2012, has been pushed back due to the slow supply of components from the Cupertino-based company’s supply chain players, according to the report, an issue that it says has been resolved.

The Retina MacBook Air is expected to be ultra-thin and lighter than previous MacBook Air models in addition to being “fanless”, allowing for a redesigned chassis. Following the success of recent iPhones and iPads, Apple will apparently offer it in gold and two different shades of grey.

According to the report, the Retina MacBook Air is being manufactured by Quanta Computer and is expected to be a high-end product that will initially be available in limited supply.

Samsung Galaxy S6: This One May Be A Curvy Offering

The Samsung Galaxy S6 will be made entirely or partially of metal – that’s something that’s been rumored for months.

Italian site Samsung HD Blog agrees, saying that the Galaxy S6 will have a unibody aluminum chassis.

But even more interesting is the site’s claim that the next Galaxy flagship – not a variant or a Galaxy S6 Edge – will feature a unique curved display.

This display will be curved on both edges, much like an analyst predicted in November, but not in quite the same way that the Galaxy Note Edge is, the site says.

Too good to be true

The Galaxy S6’s curves will reportedly be “different” from the Note Edge so that it won’t be difficult to grip, the site says. That may mean more subtle curves, or something else.

The flagship will reportedly come in two variants, one with a Snapdragon 810 chip and one with an Exynos 7, but the report says both will be called the Galaxy S6 and both will be doubly curved.

The Italian site’s info comes from what Google translates as “reliable sources,” though this does seem too good to be true.

Then again, we’ve been hearing all along that the Galaxy S6 will be radically different. Hopefully we’ll find out at CES 2015.

There’s a 2 GB RAM offering extensive support to the octa-core chipset and 16 GB expandable storage space, something that OnePlus doesn’t offer. It comes loaded with a 2500 mAh battery that for a HD device should be more than sufficient.

Toshiba Outs First Windows 8 Tablet WT-8 For Rs 15,490

Toshiba introduced its first-ever 4K-powered laptop in the country earlier this year, and now the company has dived into the Windows tablet space with WT-8. Incidentally, WT-8 is Toshiba’s first tablet offering in the Windows space and ranks alongside plethora of Windows slate available in the country these days.

 

The tablet is an 8 inch display with 1280x800p resolution which runs on the Microsoft Windows platform. The device will be available exclusively on Amazon in the country for a price of Rs 15,490.

 

Much like the other Windows products, WT-8 is packed with an Intel Atom processor, paired with 1GB RAM and offers expandable 128GB storage. In addition to that, the slate offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wireless display support as well. There’s a 5 MP camera on the back and a 1.2MP front snapper. It’s nowhere close to the sleek Lenovo Tab S8 or an even iPads with its 9.48mm thickness, and weighing 385 grams.

 

Many brands like iBall, Notion Ink, Dell and Acer among others have managed to make their own slates, and there prices varies anywhere between Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000. Going forward, we expect tablets to be priced as low as Rs 6,100 (i.e. $100), says Microsoft.

 

Having said that we’ve never been fans of an 8-inch Windows tablet due to its software deficiency and the form factor itself doesn’t make much sense from product point of view.
